SwimFairy™ Story Time: Before Swimming… Comes Readiness, with Shannon Bryant AKA The SwimFairy
Author of SwimFairy™: A 5 Star Story for Little Ones Learning to Feel Safe in the Water
What Is SwimFairy Story Time?
The goal of SwimFairy™ and SwimFairy Story Time is to give parents simple ideas for creating positive first water experiences so that when children are ready to learn to swim, the water already feels like a familiar and happy place.
Through a playful story and simple activities families can practice together, children are introduced to the same foundational skills Shannon focuses on in her first swim lessons.
Dressing as mermaids, mermen, fairies, or other water friends is strongly encouraged!
Meet Shannon Bryant — The SwimFairy
With more than 20 years of experience teaching swimming, Shannon Bryant has watched hundreds of children experience the water for the first time.
She saw too many children arrive for lessons after fear of the water had already set in. That experience inspired her to write SwimFairy™.
“I wrote SwimFairy™ to help parents guide children to feel comfortable in the water early, so skills like putting their face in the water and floating on their back can feel natural instead of scary.”
The SwimFairy Philosophy: Before Swimming Comes Readiness, At Home, Before Swim Lessons:
The idea behind SwimFairy™ is simple: don’t wait to introduce the building blocks of swimming.
Parents can begin creating positive experiences with water through simple play—even in the bathtub.
A toddler doesn't need to be taking formal swim lessons to begin becoming comfortable with water on their face, blowing bubbles, learning about breathing, relaxing in the water, or even becoming comfortable floating.
The hope is that children who attend SwimFairy Story Time will spend the coming months practicing these readiness skills with their parents.
Then, when they're old enough and ready for lessons, they come see me, The SwimFairy next summer!
Instead of spending those first lessons overcoming fear, children should arrive comfortable with some of the building blocks they need to begin learning to swim.
